Gulf University has announced the countdown to the launch of the second edition of “Sustainability Week”, scheduled to take place in November, under the supervision of the Sustainability Development Makers Center. The event will feature the participation of local, regional, and international speakers, as well as educational institutions and leading companies in the fields of environmental innovation and corporate social responsibility.
Gulf University President, Professor Mohannad Al-Firas, stated that this year’s Sustainability Week comes as a continuation of the success achieved by the first edition, noting that the university has been working on preparing a comprehensive program that combines both scientific and practical aspects, with broad participation from students across different colleges.
Professor Al-Firas said: “At Gulf University, we believe that engaging students in sustainability activities is essential to building a generation aware of its responsibilities toward the environment and society. Therefore, this week’s events have been designed to give students the opportunity to present their innovative projects and ideas in areas such as clean energy, resource management, and smart solutions for sustainable development.”
He added: “We have started the countdown to the event with a series of preparatory activities, including awareness workshops on campus, specialized training sessions to prepare students for participation in the accompanying exhibition, as well as awareness campaigns on social media to enhance community understanding of sustainability.”
The President also noted that the accompanying exhibition this year will be more diverse and comprehensive, featuring booths from government and private entities, innovative student projects, and a special section for research initiatives that support the transition toward a green and sustainable campus environment.
He further explained that Gulf University is working on upgrading its facilities and infrastructure to reflect its true commitment to sustainability values by implementing eco-friendly standards in lighting, recycling, and energy efficiency—offering a practical model for visitors and participants.
Professor Al-Firas concluded: “Sustainability Week is not a traditional event; it is an interactive platform that bridges academic thought with practical implementation. We look forward to seeing its second edition serve as a launchpad for new initiatives that strengthen Gulf University’s position as a leader in promoting environmental and social awareness across the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region.”
