Gulf University inaugurated the “Russian Cultural Days” celebration this morning in the Grand Hall at the university campus, with a wide attendance led by H.E. Alexey Skosyrev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Bahrain, alongside Prof. Mona bint Rashid Al Zayani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors, Prof. Mohannad Al Firas, President of Gulf University, as well as several distinguished guests, faculty and administrative members, and university students.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Mohannad Al Firas emphasized the university’s strong commitment to fostering cultural dialogue and academic exchange with various countries around the world. He noted that culture and education form the foundation of human and societal development, adding that Gulf University continuously strives to serve as a bridge between East and West and as a platform for intercultural understanding.

He further explained that the collaboration between Gulf University and Chechen State Pedagogical University resulted in the establishment of the first Russian Language Teaching Center in the Kingdom of Bahrain, hosted within Gulf University. This center represents a pioneering model of constructive academic and cultural cooperation between the two nations and reflects the university’s vision of global openness and its dedication to providing students with comprehensive educational and cultural experiences.

For his part, Ambassador Alexey Skosyrev expressed his appreciation to Gulf University for organizing such a distinguished event, praising the university’s efforts in strengthening cultural ties between Bahrain and Russia. He affirmed that the “Russian Cultural Days” celebration embodies the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries and reflects their shared aspiration to expand academic and cultural cooperation.

Prof. Raisa Buralova, Head of the Russian Language Department at Chechen State Pedagogical University, also expressed her delight in participating in the event, noting that

“Russian Cultural Days” provide a valuable opportunity to explore the richness of Russian culture, art, and music. She commended Gulf University for its commitment to promoting cultural dialogue and mutual understanding among nations, emphasizing that such events help build bridges of friendship and respect between peoples.

The opening ceremony featured a variety of artistic, poetic, and musical performances presented by Gulf University students and the visiting delegation from Chechnya in both Arabic and Russian. These performances beautifully reflected a blend of Bahraini and Russian cultures, symbolizing the meeting of civilizations in a spirit of creativity and positive interaction.

The Russian Cultural Days will continue over three days and include a range of artistic and interactive workshops, as well as a public exhibition showcasing traditional Russian arts and crafts. The event also features literary and musical presentations that introduce visitors to the richness of Russian heritage.

Later this evening, the documentary film “A Story from Chechnya: Lady of the Mountain” will be screened at EPEX Dana Cinema. Produced by students from the College of Communication and Media Technologies at Gulf University, the film documents their journey to capture authentic aspects of Chechen culture during their academic trip to the Republic of Chechnya last year. Presented in both Russian and Arabic, the project marks the university’s first international media production.

This event aligns with Gulf University’s vision to promote international cultural exchange and strengthen academic relations with global institutions, reinforcing its role as a leading educational hub that fosters cooperation and understanding among nations through education and culture.
