Gulf University proudly participated in the 2024 Global English Language Olympiad for Universities with “GU Falcons,” team, which secured sixth place globally.

Competitions within the Olympiad were conducted under the patronage of Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, and featured categories such as theatrical performance, project presentation, community service, English proficiency test, and teamwork, with “GU Falcons” participating in all fields to show outstanding skills and talents.

Gulf University President, Prof. Mohanad Al Firas added, “Winning sixth internationally, placing GU globally bringing us pride in the name of the university and Bahrain. This achievement reflects our students’ excellence in meeting international challenges and confirms our strategy aimed at preparing creative generations capable of competing at the highest levels worldwide. We, as faculty and staff thank the student team as well as their mentors and instructors in charge of their training and preparation, their role was crucial in this achievement.”

Professor of Architecture and team Director, Dr. Ashraf Nazeer added, “This achievement reflects the integration of various disciplines within Gulf University. GU Falcons team displayed an inspiring vision and exemplary teamwork, contributing to this success. We are proud of our students’ commitment to hard work and excellence, and we look forward to achieving even greater milestones in the future.”

Professor of English and team Coach, Dr. Abdelqader Emran, said during the visit to Jordan, “Gulf University students showed their capability to excel in using English language to express their ideas creatively and effectively, not only academically but also in providing innovative solutions and engaging in conversations.”

This is in tandem with Bahrain’s Vision 2030 that emphasizes human resources and equipping the youth with globally competitive skills. Participation and the success of “GU Falcons” in the Olympiad prove that the university supports quality education and innovation, being in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, goal number 4 related to quality education.

Gulf University has strengthened its leading position in higher education not only regionally but also internationally by representing Bahrain at this international forum, underscoring the commitment of the institution to the development of students as future leaders enabling them to cope with global changes and to contribute effectively to sustainable development in their communities.

The three-day Olympiad, conducted with the slogan “National Heritage,” was divided into five general categories: theatrical performances, presentation of projects, test for English proficiency, community service, and teamwork where “GU Falcons” performed

brilliantly, giving weight to the fact that if challenged globally, they would rise to that challenge.
