Al-Zayani: Raising the Flag Embodies the University’s Commitment to Sustainable Development Principles and Bahrain Vision 2030
As part of its continuous efforts to promote a culture of sustainability and enhance environmental and social awareness, Gulf University raised the Sustainability Flag this morning at its campus in preparation for the second edition of “Sustainability Week,” scheduled to take place from November 16 to 20. This initiative aligns with the university’s ongoing commitment to supporting Bahrain Vision 2030 and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at both national and academic levels.
The act of raising the Sustainability Flag represents a symbolic step that reflects the university’s dedication to upholding environmental and social responsibility, while also showcasing its role as a pioneering academic institution integrating sustainability into its educational, research, and community policies.
On this occasion, Prof. Mona bint Rashid Al-Zayani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors at Gulf University, affirmed that raising the flag symbolizes the university’s vision for a greener, more innovative future. She added that Sustainability Week serves as a leading platform for exchanging knowledge and ideas that promote sustainable development practices within the academic community.
“At Gulf University, we believe that sustainability is not a choice but a national and humanitarian duty. Raising the Sustainability Flag today sends a strong message of commitment to building a responsible educational environment that prepares a generation aware of environmental and developmental issues, in alignment with the aspirations of Bahrain Vision 2030,” said Prof. Al-Zayani.
Meanwhile, Prof. Mohanad Al-Firas, President of Gulf University, stated that the upcoming second edition of Sustainability Week will feature a variety of impactful activities, including the First Sustainability Conference, with participation from distinguished academics,
experts, and specialists in the fields of energy, environment, and green economy, alongside interactive exhibitions, workshops, and innovative student projects.
“Raising the Sustainability Flag marks the beginning of a journey filled with initiatives that reflect the university’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development. Through the conference and its accompanying activities, we aim to foster an educational environment that inspires creativity and research toward smart and sustainable solutions that contribute to the progress of our beloved Kingdom,” added Prof. Al-Firas.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of Gulf University’s commitment to advancing sustainability and innovation through collaboration with local and regional institutions, striving to build an aware and responsible academic community that contributes to comprehensive and sustainable development in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
