Gulf University is preparing to launch the “Russian Cultural Days” celebration from October 27 to 29 at its campus in Sanad. The large-scale cultural event is organized by the university’s Language Center as part of its Tareekhi (“My History”) program, which aims to promote cultural exchange and human connection between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Russian Federation.

This celebration comes as a continuation of the academic and cultural cooperation agreement signed earlier this year (February) between Gulf University and Chechen State Pedagogical University, as part of the university’s efforts to build bridges of international collaboration and exchange educational and cultural expertise. Under this agreement, the Russian government extended special support for launching the Tareekhi initiative, which combines Russian language learning with immersion in Russian heritage through educational, artistic, literary, and interactive activities.

According to the university, organizing Russian Cultural Days reflects its commitment to strengthening values of civilizational understanding and cultural openness. The initiative also aligns with the university’s community engagement program, which focuses on empowering Bahraini society through multilingual education and providing sustainable learning opportunities that enhance communication skills and cultural diversity.

The Language Center at Gulf University offers specialized Russian language courses open to both students and the general public for a nominal fee. The program includes six educational levels covering linguistic, communicative, and cultural aspects, with dedicated tracks for both children and adults. Each level concludes with a study trip to Russia, allowing learners to apply their skills and engage directly with Russian culture on site.

The festivities will begin on Monday, October 27, with an official opening ceremony in the university’s Grand Hall. The event will feature artistic, poetic, and theatrical performances presented by students from Chechen State Pedagogical University and participants in the Russian language program, showcasing their progress and immersion in Russian culture.

Later that evening, the documentary film “Lady of the Mountain: A Story from Chechnya” will be screened at EPEX Dana Cinema. The film, produced by students from the College of Communication and Media Technologies at Gulf University, documents their journey in capturing authentic glimpses of Chechen culture during their academic trip to the Republic of Chechnya last year. Produced in both Russian and Arabic, it represents the first international media production by Gulf University students outside Bahrain.

The opening ceremony is expected to host official and diplomatic figures, including representatives from the Ministry of Information, the Russian Embassy in Bahrain, artists, faculty members, students, and a delegation from Chechen State Pedagogical University, who are visiting Bahrain specifically to participate in the celebration.

The event will continue on October 28–29 with interactive workshops and an open art exhibition at the university campus from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Activities will include learning traditional Russian folk dances, silk painting, Matryoshka doll coloring, and demonstrations of ceramics and handicrafts that highlight the beauty of traditional Russian arts.

Gulf University emphasized that these activities are not merely artistic celebrations, but part of an innovative educational methodology that integrates culture into learning, helping prepare students to become globally minded individuals capable of communicating across languages and cultures.

The Tareekhi initiative stands as a practical example of Gulf University’s commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue and strengthening international cooperation in academic and cultural fields.

By organizing Russian Cultural Days, Gulf University reinforces its mission to connect education with the community and to highlight the vital role of academic institutions in fostering relationships between nations through knowledge and the arts, solidifying Bahrain’s position as a regional hub for dialogue and cultural exchange.
