Manama, Bahrain – In a pioneering initiative aimed at nurturing young talent in the field of sports media, the Sports Commentary Award has officially been launched in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The award is a collaborative effort between Bahrain Sports Channel, Gulf University, and TAMOOH Sports Management, bringing together key stakeholders from the education, media, and sports sectors.
The launch marks a significant step toward empowering youth in Bahrain and the wider Gulf region, offering a structured platform to identify and develop future sports commentators.
Prof. Mohannad Al- Firas, President of Gulf University, emphasized that the award aligns with the university’s vision to enhance specialized media skills among its students and youth in general. He noted that sports commentary is more than a linguistic skill. It is a comprehensive art that combines sports knowledge, analytical thinking, and real-time interaction with live events.
“Our goal through this award is to identify young individuals with natural talent and refine their abilities through professional training and academic guidance,” Prof. Al- Firas stated. He further explained that the award is built on a comprehensive training program, including practical workshops, specialized lectures, and one-on-one assessment sessions delivered by seasoned sports media professionals and commentators. He also highlighted Gulf University’s commitment to offering a hands-on educational environment that simulates real-world media practices, giving participants real opportunities for semi-professional engagement.
Dr. Sherif Badran, Dean of the College of Communication and Media Technologies at Gulf University, noted that the award is not merely a competition, but a structured training pathway aimed at developing sports commentary talent. The program encompasses content preparation, analytical techniques, vocal performance, and live interaction with sporting events.
Dr. Badran concluded by affirming that the award represents a new model in applied media training, blending academic rigor with professional mentorship. It opens the door for youth to build a promising future in sports media, in line with Gulf University’s mission to prepare participants for leadership roles in the media industry.
The award is expected to attract aspiring commentators from across Bahrain and the Gulf, creating new opportunities for youth to launch careers in the growing field of sports media.
