GU President Al-Firas: Gulf University Aims to Be a Platform for Youth Creativity in Bahrain and the Gulf Region, “Khaliji Podcast” Launches Its First Episode Featuring Poet Sheikh Ahmed Al Khalifa

Gulf University has launched the first episode of its new program, “Khaliji Podcast,” featuring renowned poet Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, during an event held in the university’s television studio. The production involved a select group of students who managed the filming, editing, and full artistic production of the episode.

University President Prof. Mohannad Al Firas stated that Khaliji Podcast will serve as “a dynamic platform for youth creativity and expression in Bahrain and across the Gulf region.”

Prof. Al Firas expressed his pride in the project’s launch, emphasizing:

“Khaliji Podcast represents a unique experience that combines practical education with cultural creativity. Our students take full responsibility for the production process—from filming to editing and directing—while the program hosts distinguished poets from Bahrain and other Gulf countries.”

He added, “We believe in empowering young people to create quality media content that reflects the Gulf’s identity and cultural values.” He emphasized that Gulf University seeks, through such initiatives, to strengthen students’ presence in the national media landscape and equip them with practical skills that align with labor market demands.

Prof. Al Firas highlighted the university’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote student-community engagement, noting that the podcast will feature diverse episodes covering poetry, arts, literature, and youth-related topics—creating a discussion platform that enriches the cultural scene locally and regionally.

He further pointed out that the success of the first episode marks an important step toward realizing this vision, adding that student participation in every stage of production provides an invaluable learning experience.

The program aims to empower students to engage directly in the media production process, helping them develop digital content creation and talk show management skills that enhance their creativity and prepare them for the modern media industry.

Khaliji Podcast aspires to offer a creative space that brings together poetry, culture, and youth-driven media by hosting leading poets from Bahrain and the Gulf in inspiring, content-rich conversations. The episodes are fully produced under the academic supervision of Gulf University’s expert faculty.

The inaugural episode featured Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who spoke about his poetic journey and his contributions to enriching the Gulf’s literary landscape. He praised university-led initiatives that give young people genuine opportunities to express themselves through modern media platforms.

The College of Communication and Media Technologies at Gulf University had previously announced the launch of its dedicated podcast studio during the Arab Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education, organized by the university in collaboration with the UK-based Times Higher Education (THE) organization. The event brought together international experts to discuss the potential of AI in advancing educational systems.

It is noteworthy that the College of Communication and Media Technologies at Gulf University is the first media college in the Kingdom of Bahrain and one of the leading specialized colleges in the region. It offers advanced academic programs designed to meet the needs of the media and communication industry.

The college also holds membership in the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC) and is professionally accredited by the UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR)—making Gulf University’s media program the second academic program in the Middle East to receive this prestigious international accreditation.
