MANAMA, Bahrain, Nov. 18, 2024 – Gulf University marked World Diabetes Day with a comprehensive awareness event organized by its Center for Community Engagement and Continuing Education in collaboration with leading health organizations, including the Bahrain Diabetes Society, Al Salam Hospital, Dr. Abdul Fattah Clinic, Nutrition Clinic, Merck, Paramedics Academy Team, and Bluebird Pharmacy.

The event featured a sports marathon, educational sessions on diabetes prevention and management, and free medical screenings for attendees. This initiative reflects Gulf University’s dedication to fostering health awareness and aligns with the United Nations’ third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3) focused on good health and well-being.

Dr. Maryam Ibrahim Al-Hajri, Vice President of the Bahrain Diabetes Society, delivered a keynote lecture titled “Diabetes and Quality of Life,” commending Gulf University and its partners for their efforts in raising community awareness and promoting public health.

In his remarks, Gulf University President Dr. Muhannad Al-Mashhadani emphasized the institution’s commitment to achieving sustainable development goals through collaborative community events. “These partnerships and awareness initiatives play a crucial role in advancing public health and addressing key societal challenges,” Al-Mashhadani stated.

Dr. Marwan Milhem, Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Continuing Education, highlighted the importance of social initiatives in enhancing health literacy across the Kingdom. “Gulf University remains steadfast in its mission to organize impactful community events that contribute to better health awareness, thanks to the invaluable support of our participating institutions,” Milhem said.
